For the first time, the Highway Patrol captain in charge of security in raging Ferguson, Missouri; is backed by the National Guard. On Monday, they vowed that burglars and vandals would not disrupt “the soul of this community.”

The pledge was made by Capt. Ron Johnson, one day after the worst events yet happened between police and protestors who are protesting the police shooting death of unarmed African-American teenager Michael Brown.

“Tonight, we will ensure the safety of the citizens of Ferguson, the visitors to Ferguson, the business of Ferguson,” Capt. Ron Johnson stated. “We will not allow vandals, criminal elements, to impact the safety and security of this community.”

Gov. Jay Nixon ordered the National Guard to provide additional security to the town. Later the governor added that the National Guard’s mission is limited to protecting the officers already in place.

Nixon also added that the midnight-to-five a.m. curfew would be lifted. The governor added that police and protestors fought both nights that the curfew was in place. This fighting turned into robbery, vandalism and an attempt to take over the law enforcement command center and law enforcement officers were also targeted by gunfire.
