Thanks to hundreds and thousands of people buying Beats By Dre Headphones, Mr. Andre Young is now sitting at the top of Forbes list as cash king with a whopping $110 Million earned in the last 12 months...yes that's before taxes but still that's a nice chunk of change. Jay Z held the top spot for the last 2 years, however Diddy came in 2nd with 45 million earned, Jay Z is in the 3 spot with 37 million earned thanks to his involvment with the Brooklyn Nets, Carol's Daughter among other non-music ventures. Rounding out the top 5 on the list is Kanye West at number 4 with 35 million earned last year and Lil Wayne with 27 milli earned placing him at number 5 on the Forbes top hip hop cash kings list!
So the internet has been buzzing for the last 24 hours over the apparance of "Hologram Tupac" at Coachella this past Sunday night. During the Dr. Dre and Snoop's set a Holographic 2Pac arose from the ground moving, rapping, and performing as if the real Pac himself was on stage. With Dre and Snoop planning a possible full on tour rumors are spreading that if this tour does happen Hologram 2Pac could be on the bill as well. Now don't get it twisted I was amazed to see how this was pulled off, I'm sure for anyone who was at Coachella it was an experience like none other, and props to AV Creations for creating this effect. But I wonder if this would work on a city to city tour every night. I got to imagine it would be quite a slap in the face in a time where artists like Rick Ross, Flo-Rida and even Snoop Dogg can't even sell out a 10,000 seat venue, to have a packed house to see a holographic version of an artist that's been dead for over 15 years, guess time will tell if that's actually happens or not!
At this point I think we've all given up on "Detox" ever being released, but that doesn't mean Dr. Dre isn't keeping busy. According to Variety magazine The good doctor has signed on to produce the horror film "Thaw". Set over in the Yukon, this flick is about an ancient evil spirit that's unleashed as ice thaws....ummmm, okay!!! The script is currently being written and will be distributed by New Line Cinema (the same company that distributed classics like "Friday" "House Party" and a grip of others) Maybe Dre is following in the footsteps of fellow N.W.A member Ice Cube going the movie route, who knows but it would be nice for Detox to see the light of day before we all get to old to care! lol
At approxmately 10:40 last night 3/15 (Pacific Time) Long Beach hook crooner Nate Dogg was pronounced dead at the age of 41.
Nate had suffered several strokes over the last 3 years, most recently as last year he was having even more health issues, but on March 15th it all caught up to him and he unfortunately could not make a full recovery.
Nate Dogg, born Nathaniel Hale was famous for legendary hooks on classics like Snoop Doggs "Ain't No Fun" Dr. Dre's "Next Episode" and of course Warren G's "Regulators" and a ton of other hip hop and R&B records over the last 18 years. Originally a member of 2-1-3 a group formed with childhood friends Snoop Dogg, and Warren G....many artists called on Nate Dogg to lace their record with his soulful sound that was like no other.
As Mack 10 said once "It Ain't a Hit unless Nate Dogg spit" Nate Dogg will be missed by peers in the industry as well as the fans and his family. Keep it on U92 to hear all the Nate Dogg Classics and more info on his death as we get it! R.I.P Nate Dogg
Well it looks like we're getting one step closer to seeing Dr. Dre's "Detox" album coming to life. Just 3 weeks after the song "Kush" hit the radio airwaves, the video will debut tomorrow Friday 12/10 on Vevo.com, soon to be followed by the all the major music video outlets. The song Kush features Snoop Dogg, who also is preparing to release his latest album " The Doggumentary" in March of 2011, Akon is on the track as well.
Snoop had this to say on working with Dre again....
“Dr Dre, that’s my big homeboy, that’s my big brother. "He gave me my start. so whenever he calls me to come through and do what I need to I’m there for him. Akon’s part of the family too so this is what we do, we just make great music.”
"Detox" is slated for a February 2011 release.
