Police Warn Of Telephone Scams Targeting The Elderly

Share this with friends:

Logan City Police say scammers are targeting Utahns through a couple of telephone scams, and are warning people to be cautious if they receive a threatening phone call.

Logan City Assistant Police Chief Jeff Curtis says there are two types of calls these scammers are making.

The first call they are aware of is a person who says they are calling about a debt that is past due. They say the debt needs to be immediately paid in full, and police say the caller gets threatening.

A second type of phone call is from someone who says they are a family member, and have been arrested overseas. They request money through a wire transfer, and are also targeting the elderly.

According to a media release from Logan City Police, collection agencies and police departments don't use these methods, and if you receive a similar call or email, you should report it to your local police department.
