Every DJ has a style. Every music producer has a sound. DJ Brisk’s style is precision. His sound is innovation.
The resident DJ for ONE Nightclub, Brisk drew largely from a hip-hop and reggae background when he started turning tables in ‘97. With such influences as KRS-One, James Brown and Sade, his musical palate today is especially sensitive to 80s, 90s, soul, funk, reggae, true school breaks, electro house, hip-hop and mash-up styles.
Brisk has that rare ability of programming music his audience didn’t know they’d been craving until they find themselves devouring it like their last meal. It’s precision like this that’s allowed him to open for acts like Nas, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Gangstarr and Joan Jett. It’s the reason he’s called on for opening sets when DJ AM, DJ Premier and DJ Jazzy Jeff come to town. It’s why he’s a member of the world-renowned Bumsquad DJ’s, the resident DJ at ONE Nightclub and hosts a regular spot as Mixshow DJ on KUUU U92.
His skills don’t begin and end with the DJ booth. Brisk is an experienced studio producer and engineer who has enjoyed music placements on MTV, high-profile TV and Web commercials and movie trailers. His sound doesn’t forsake a single genre of music. In fact, a typical Brisk mix sounds like a cocktail party that has James Brown mingling with David Guetta who brought along Jay-Z who’s busy introducing Public Enemy to the Rolling Stones.
