Poetik C.

Mornings 6A - 10A

Weekday mornings from 6a -10a, Poetik throws down the top Hip Hop jamz to get you to work or school. The homegrown Salt Lake City native has been a true head of the Hip Hop culture for years and is full blooded Navajo.

Back in the 80's, "The Navajo on the Radio" was a talented B-BOY who entered in grade school talent shows, local battles and even performing at half time for big basketball tournaments in the SLC area.

DJing has always been a part of his life. Even DJing dances all over the Navajo reservation (Newcomb, NM) where he lived for 2 years taught him the business.

An accomplished Turntablist, he has won many DJ titles in the Pro battle circuit including becoming the first DMC US DJ Finalist from Utah in 2004.

Poetik C wakes up Salt Lake with Hip Hop, daily music news and features, plus tons of free stuff. Besides on air duties, he's also a member of the U92 All Star Mixers & BUM SQUAD DJZ!

2) Most embarissing radio moment? Recovering from strep and sounding more like the Barry White show!

3) How old were you your first time? Dang... uh... My mom might read this!

4) How did you get your name? I used to write rhymes in high school and then send them to girls. My friend Marcella started calling me "Poetic" plus I went by "C" in HS. Just combined :)

5) Favorite Artists or Groups? Through my life... NWA, DJ Quik, Dilated Peoples, Run DMC, Invisibl Skratch Piklz, X-Men (X-Ecutioners) R.I.P. Eazy E, Jam Master Jay, and Grandmaster Roc Raida!

6) Before you die, what do you have to do? Go to a Rock Steady Anniversary in NYC!

7) Best vacation spot? Bay area during Football season! RAIDER NATION!

8) What is the most challenging part of the job? Waking up @ 4:45 am each morning!

9) Any hidden talents? I can scratch! (Not Booties, crotches, etc sicko!)

10) Local artist advise? Just because your friends and family big up your music, it dosen't mean everyone that listens to U92 will. Take time in the studio, don't make a song blitzed on 40's and indo thinking the outcome will get radio play. Never perform on stage with a pitcher or bottle of beer in one hand and the mic in the other! AND most importantly.. Approach a DJ professionaly, never Faded in the club. :)
